- Make sure to keep protein in your hair. You can do hard protein treatments once a month or every other month. Or you can do like I do and use protein based products weekly to help keep some strength into your hair.
- Moisture. Color dries the hair out and can cause unwanted breakage. Deep condition your hair often. When you do deep condition do it with heat i.e steam or a dryer to make sure the conditioner penetrates the hair shaft. Make sure that you are keeping up with moisturizing and sealing your hair. Do hot oil treatments. Anything that aides in keeping moisture in the hair is very beneficial.
- Lay off the heat. Constant heat usage will do nothing to help the health of your hair. I'm not saying don't use it just use it very seldom.
- When getting your hair colored don't go more than 2 shades lighter than your natural hair color. Doing so makes the hair more weaker. (From LaToyaJonesblog.com)
Making sure you stick to these tips will help you to successfully have double processed hair. I am not a licensed stylist. I am just sharing the tips that have helped me to keep my relaxed and colored hair on my head and not on the floor. Thus not loosing any of the progress I have made on my hair journey.
I totally agree. My hair was colored and relaxed years ago and my hair was BSB and super thick. I definitely noticed that my hair was dryer than usual, but I just increased my DCing to twice a week to counteract any issues.

DeleteSo glad i found this post! I totally agree as well. Having double processed hair is not only achievable, but also maintainable, just requires a little e.x.t.r.a tlc. IM PROVING IT, forget the nay sayers, im doing what everyone says couldnt be done!! For me, this is MY OWN personal hair journey that i can say with certainty that i WILL have ultimate success (currently, relaxed, colored dark hair blond, full bsb!) In my opinion, many people arent willing to take the necessary steps in ensuring that double processed hair is consistently nourished, hence ruling this OUT because they or someone they knew failed at it due to lack of knowledge!! But what people fail to realize is that while in times past, its been firmly stated with powerful conviction of how women with relaxed hair absolutely COULD NOT have both long and healthy relaxed hair. fast forward to now, and look at how many women have completely crushed and dismissed that myth. Any Thing is Possible! This is what i say for anyone who is considering:IGNORE ALL NEGATIVITY, i repeat I_G_N_O_R_E ALLL negativity, learn what your new hair likes,(mainly protien) deep conditioning often (with heat) is key!, basically follow all of the tips,tricks,and,techniques of what you initially learned about relaxed hair care and step it up a notch, this is a new level of care. DO WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU! you may have to tweak some things, for example, for me conditioners, and leave in cream conditioners work best for me as a moisturizer. Stay AWAY from the Heat as MuCH AS POSSIBLE at all cost, find alternatives!(must!)youll be glad you did. WARNING: this option is only for those who are able to stick with a solid (consistent) hair care regimen! not for lazy people or one with a defeat mentality!! Good Luck!

I know that stylist don't recommend having double processed hair but if they give their clients the information they need to maintain their hair. It wouldn't be a problem. Not just vague information but detailed info on how to maintain the color and relaxer it would be so much easier.
