Let's Talk!

I've been asking myself this question for a little while now. Do you think us hair journey ladies do too much to achieve our length goals? Do we want reach SL, APL, BSL, etc so bad that we will try anything to get there? When I first started my hair journey, in my opinion, one of the most popular questions was "how do I get my hair to grow faster?" Growth potions, cooch cream, the Inversion Method, vitamins, and Mineral Rich, and countless other products are out there claiming to increase our growth rate. Towards the beginning of my hair journey I tried two different growth potions. I don't know if they helped me or not because I didn't use them consistently. I am not bashing these products and those that choose to try them. Now I have come to a point in my journey that I just want to enjoy the ride. I've obsessed over length before and it was not fun and an unnecessary stressor.

So I pose the question again. Do we do too much too achieve length? Should we just enjoy the journey and celebrate meeting goals as they come?

  1. I TOTALLY agree! I had to stop obsessing over length because I realized that I stopped enjoying my hair for fear that I would lose my length. I began to get bored and unhappy with my hair! While being on a hair journey, you must enjoy it or it becomes cumbersome. Early in my HHJ, I was doing the most. Trying and doing everything to my hair. Once you he been on your HHJ for a while, you start realizing what works and you stop jumping on every bandwagon. You also learn to keep it simple and start enjoying your hair more. I love that I have my staples and just try new things to see what else is out there, not necessarily because I NEED to. I love that I have started to truly keep it simple and I love concentrating more on overall health than length. As they say, the length will come if your hair is healthy. I agree, we should celebrate EACH milestone and not concentrate so much on the end result. I think that is when people get frustrated with their hair, especially if it doesn't grow as fast as other people's hair.

As a side note, I was *this close* to trying the coochie cream in the beginning of my HHJ..sigh...

    1. What made me want to do this post was seeing the inversion method. I was like is it really that serious that we have to hold our heads upside down and massage for however many minutes to get a little bit of growth. It was a bit much for me. lol But to each their own. I'm enjoying my journey and milestones as I reach them.

  2. For me---achieving (and maintaining) length has nothing to do with jumping on every bandwagon product or miracle technique and everything to do with learning to listen to my hair. Being consistent with the simple things: moisturizing, deep conditioning, proper detangling won't grow your hair six feet long tomorrow, but in time---you'll have amazing results. I really do love posts like these because they remind me that its not a race to the finish---but a journey and the best part is having other equally obsessed ladies joining you!

    Besitos!

    1. Exactly! I had to learn that over time. Even though I didn't jump on every bad wagon I had to realize that it is a JOURNEY. Focusing on length will do nothing but drive you crazy.
